Cry it Out
Cry it Out
Fall 2023
PLOT
A comedy with dark edges, Cry It Out takes an honest look at the absurdities of being home with a baby, the power of female friendship, the dilemma of going back to work, and the effect class has on parenthood in America.
PROCESS
Each role in this production was triple cast, meaning all our members got the chance to both play their role (or roles!), and study the actor playing the same character. Our rehearsals often included switching actors part way through, discussing the nuances of each artist’s take and (of course) stealing the best choices. Every night, the audience saw a completely different cast and a wildly different and fresh show.
WHEN / WHERE
Cry it Out went up at the NuBox theater November 9th-18th of 2023.
PROCESS
With just under 6 months, each member of our company took a famous leading role from the Shakespeare cannon and cut down the entire play into a 10 minute monologue, using projections, other actors as puppets, Ken dolls, mannequins and mirrors to convey the each story in its entirety. The entire process was collaborative with the whole company influencing and devising each other’s peices. The result was a play that moved at light-speed from deep mourning to manic hilarity.
Summer 2023
Shakespeare’s Leading Players
PLOT
10 Shakespeare plays told by their lead character in under 100 minutes. We follow Macbeth to Juliet to Cleopatra and beyond in this side splitting, pearl clutching, high octane variety show.
WHEN / WHERE
Shakespeare’s leading players went up at The Alchemical theater June 22-24th in 2024.
The A Train Anthology
PLOT
As the A train zoomed across the tracks, we invited our audience to come aboard and experience a full spectrum of NYC commutes from urinary meet cutes to funerals and the apocalypse.
PROCESS
As part of our dedication to process, A Train was sourced from seven distinct writers and workshopped with actors in the room over the course of three months, culminating in one interconnected ensemble piece.
Additionally to empower artists in the community beginning 30 minutes before each performance audience members were able to grab a drink at Brooklyn Art Haus’ incredible bar, and to check out our subway “buskers”, which was a mini show before the show of independent NY musicians who came on our subway set to “busk”, and promote their music.
WHEN / WHERE
The A Train Anthology went up at Brooklyn Art Haus December 6th-15th of 2024.
